Princeton, NJ - Brown junior defender Matt Britner (Halifax, Nova Scotia) picked up his second honor in as many days as he was selected the Ivy League's Player of the Week on Monday. The Bears' co-captain earned Defensive MVP honors at the adidas-Brown Classic over the weekend, beating out two Hermann Trophy Watch List nominees for the award. This marks the second week in a row a Brown player has been honored by the League with freshman Scott Geppert garnering Rookie of the Week accolades a week ago.
Facing a 24th ranked squad in UNC-Greensboro and a George Mason team that finally cracked a impenetrable UConn defense two days earlier, Britner anchored the Brown defense to a second place finish. Despite a 1-0 loss to the Spartans, ranked #1 in the nation for most of last season, the Bears clearly out-played them as Britner marked Hermann Trophy Watch List nominee Randi Patterson. On Sunday, Brown once again allowed just one goal in its 3-1 victory over the Patriots.
Britner missed all of last season with an injury after an impressive rookie campaign in 2003 in which he earned an All-Ivy Honorable Mention.
