Providence, RI - Brown has named Anders Kelto and Ken Murphy assistant men's soccer coaches. Kelto is a 2001 graduate of Brown and played under Head Coach Mike Noonan from 1998-2000. Murphy will serve as the Director of Coaching for Bruno United. He has coached youth soccer for the past nine years in Connecticut.
Kelto returns to Brown after serving as a graduate assistant coach for Michigan State last year. During his tenure with the Bears, Brown advanced to the NC AA Tournament every year from 1998-2000 and captured two Ivy League Titles. He was prevented from playing his first two years at Brown in 1996 and 1997 due to a heart condition, but was allowed to play in 1998 and 1999. Kelto returned to the team in 2000, making up one year of his eligibility. He was a three-time All-Ivy selection and finished his career at Brown with six goals and nine assists for 21 points.
After graduating from Brown in 2001 with a B.A. in Biology, Kelto went on to graduate school at Michigan State University. While at Michigan State, Kelto played one year for the Spartans, and helped lead the team to the 2001 NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1969. He received All-Big Ten honors, scoring a goal and adding three assists for five points. In 2002, Kelto worked as a graduate assistant for the team, as it went 12-7.
In 1996, Kelto founded a summer camp program in his hometown of Traverse City, Michigan called the "Mr. Soccer Camps" after being named "Mr. Soccer" in 1995 as the top high school player in Michigan. Since then, the camps have expanded to several cities throughout Michigan.
Murphy played his collegiate soccer at the University of Connecticut, where he captained the Huskies his senior year. During this period, UConn made three visits to the NCAA tournament reaching the round of sixteen, and the regional finals twice. Murphy played professionally for the Detroit Express and the Washington Diplomats of the North American Soccer League.
Besides coaching youth soccer for the past nine years, Murphy has also worked on the Connecticut ODP staff. Murphy holds a NSCAA National Diploma Certificate.
