Bears Ranked Among the Best In the Nation

Providence, RI - The NSCAA/adidas Preseason Men's Soccer Poll has been released and Brown is #21 on the list of top teams in the country. The Bears are coming off their 20th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, finishing last season with a 10-4-3 record. Head Coach Mike Noonan's team was ranked 11th in the final NSCAA/adidas poll. Seniors Jeff Larentowicz and Chris Gomez headline Brown's lineup this fall and will serve as the team's captains. Both were chosen to the All-Ivy First Team as well as the All-New England First Team. Larentowicz was also named a Second Team All-American The Bears will open play next Friday at Boston College. Brown will then welcome Clemson, San Francisco and Yale to the seventh annual adidas-Brown Classic. The Bears will first play Clemson on Friday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised live by Cox 3. Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair, former Brown Head Coach, will return to Providence. Adair was at the helm of the Bears' program from 1991-94 before going to Clemson. He has led his teams to four NCAA Final Eight appearances in the past 8 years (including one at Brown in 1994). On Sunday, Sept. 12 Brown will play San Francisco at 1:30 p.m. in the final round of competition at the Classic. All kids wearing their youth soccer jerseys will be admitted for free in celebration of Ocean State Youth Soccer Day. In addition, the first 500 kids in attendance will receive a free plush mini soccer ball. The first regular season NSCAA/adidas polls will be released Tuesday, Sept. 7. The polls will be available at www.NSCAA.com at Noon CST each Tuesday throughout the season. The NSCAA/adidas Rankings are conducted by a committee of member coaches throughout the country and are an indicator of the week-to-week status of qualified programs.
