Providence, RI - The two-time defending Ivy League Champion Brown men's soccer team will hold its first practice of the 2002 season on Tuesday August 27th at 9:00 a.m at the Erickson Athletic Complex, located behind the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center. The Bears kick off the season at home on Sept. 13 with the annual adidas/Brown Classic where they will welcome national champion North Carolina, Michigan and Yale. Brown will play Michigan on the opening night of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday Sept. 15, the Bears will face the Tar Heels at 1:30 p.m.
Despite the loss of two All-Ivy players, the Bears' dominance in the Ivy League should continue this season with the return of a strong nucleus, including four players (Dustin Branan, Adom Crew, Julian Jordan and Jeff Larentowicz) who earned All-Ivy distinction last year.
The Bears look to return to the NCAA Tournament behind the play of Branan, who will co-captain the team with Crew. Branan is considered one of the top defenders in the Ivy League after earning First Team All-Ivy honors in 2001.
