Richmond, VA - Former Brown men's soccer star Cory Gibbs '01 made his U.S. National Team debut on June 8 at Richmond Stadium in Richmond, VA in a game versus New Zealand in front of over 9,000 fans. Gibbs entered the game in the second half to earn his first cap.
The U.S. went on to win the game 2-1, and now looks towards the prestigious 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup, played in various cities in France from June 18-29.
Gibbs was added to the U.S. National Team's roster back in December and manager Bruce Arena has said he will give Gibbs playing time in the Confederations Cup.
Gibbs played for Brown from 1997-2000 and was an All-American and the Ivy League Player of the Year in 2000. That year, Gibbs led the Bears to a perfect 7-0-0 record in the Ivy League, advancing to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championship. He was a three-time First Team All-Ivy selection as Brown made an NCAA Tournament appearance every year during his four-year tenure.
