Providence, RI - In the Major League Soccer Super Draft on Friday, Brown men's soccer player Matt Britner (Halifax, NS) was drafted in the third round by the New England Revolution.
Britner, a unanimous First Team All-Ivy selection and the League's Player of the Year, helped lead the Brown squad to a 15-2-1 overall record and an undefeated 7-0-0 mark in the Ivy League. The Bears made their 23rd appearance in the NCAA Tournament, received the sixth seed and a first-round bye. Brown hosted Old Dominion on Nov. 28, but fell 2-1 in a double overtime thriller. Britner was also named to the Second Team All-New England.
Although he sustained an injury in 2006, he was just one of two unanimous First Team All-Ivy selections in 2005. He also received First Team All-New England honors and was a member of Canada's Under-20 World Cup team and other Canadian youth national teams. In 2003, Britner received Ivy League Honorable Mention honors.
With the New England Revolution, Britner will play with former teammate, Jeff Larentowicz '05. The Revolution begins the 2008 season at 7:30 p.m. on March 29 when the team hosts the Houston Dynamo at Gillette Stadium. Fox Soccer Channel will televise the game nationally.
