Men's Soccer Falls To St. Peter's, 2-0, In First Round NCAA Action

Providence, RI - The Brown men's soccer team fell to visiting St. Peter's, 2-0, in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Championship. The Peacocks scored 13 minutes into the second half and added an insurance goal with 3:11 left in the game to take the 2-0 victory. Senior Rinaldo Chambers, who leads the team in scoring with 14 goals, scored both goals for St. Peters.
Brown came out strong in the opening minutes of the game with a shot by sophomore Ibrahim Diane (Potomac, MD) hitting the crossbar. St. Peter's defense came together midway through the first and held the Bears to four shots in the half, compared to its eight.
Chambers found himself wide open inside the box at the 58:03 mark after teammate Chris Megaloudis threaded in a perfect pass to give the Peacocks a 1-0 lead. The goal proved to be the game-winner as Brown failed to get on the board. The Bears rallied in the final minutes, but could not convert on six corner kick attempts. Brown out-shot St. Peter's 18-6 in the second half.
Chambers added an insurance goal at the 86:49 mark on a similar play to seal the victory for the Peacocks. Junior Douglas Narvaez earned the assist on the goal.
In net for Brown, junior Chris Gomez (Bellflower, CA) posted seven saves. Sophomore John Moschella recorded one save in the first half for the Peacocks. Sophomore Pat Nagawiecki relieved Moschella in the second half, posting three saves to earn the win.
The loss for Brown was just the third time it was knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in the opening round in 20 appearances.
