Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Yale

Nov. 9, 2002

Providence, RI - The men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Yale Saturday night at Stevenson Field. The Bulldogs scored the game-winner with ten minutes remaining in the game. Brown falls to 5-7-4 overall and 1-3-2 in the Ivy League with one game left to play this season. Yale improves to 9-4-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Ivy League.

The first half went scoreless thanks to several excellent saves by both goalies. Yale goalie Matt Aleksinas robbed the Bears of a goal early in the half. He made a diving stop on a free kick taken by sophomore Marcos Romaneiro (North Brunswick, NJ).

Senior goalkeeper Peter Mahoney (Wellesley, MA) made a huge save of his own 18 minutes into the half when Yale's Brian Roberts took a hard shot from the right side on a breakaway.

Yale's leading scorer, Lindsey Williams, scored the game-winner at the 80:13 mark off a rebound from Ryan Raybould to push past the Bears. The goal ties Williams with Brown junior Adom Crew (Columbia, MD) for the Ivy League lead in goals with ten each.

Mahoney totaled four saves for Brown while Alkesinas recorded seven for the Bulldogs.

Brown will close out the 2002 season on Saturday Nov. 16 at Dartmouth for a 1:00 p.m. game.
