New Haven, CT - Goals scored by senior Kevin Davies (Port Washington., NY) and junior Dylan Sheehan (Wolfville, NS) helped lead the #4 Brown men's soccer team (13-1-1, 5-0-0) to a 2-0 victory over the Yale Bulldogs on Sunday evening.
Although the game was scoreless in the first 45 minutes of play, Brown dominated the Bulldogs out shooting Yale (3-7-5, 1-2-2) 13-1. Junior Rhett Bernstein (San Diego, CA) put his head on a few balls that went just wide of the goal, Davies booted one right at Yale goalkeeper Erik Geiger, and sophomore TJ Thompson (Atkinson, NH) blasted one from the top of the box that went hit the crossbar with 50 seconds remaining in the half.
Brown came out of half-time with even more intensity, as the Bears picked up two goals. The first came at the 59 minute mark when Davies headed one in past Geiger. Assists went to junior Darren Howerton (Northboro, MA) and sophomore Chris Roland (Rochester, NY). Davies almost nabbed another goal just five minutes later, but it went wide.
With 6:50 remaining in the game, senior Laurent Manuel (New York, NY) passed the ball to sophomore Nick Elenz-Martin (Encinitas, CA) who then crossed it from the right side to Sheehan in the middle of the goal. Sheehan slid at the ball and knocked it past Yale's goalkeeper to put the score at 2-0.
Brown out shot Yale 20-5 for the game, and had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN) received the win in net for the Bears', as he tallied two saves to increase his undefeated record to 9-0-1.
Up next, the Bears will honor their seniors in their last home game against Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 4:00 p.m.
