Oct. 26, 2002

Providence, RI - The Brown men's soccer team picked up its first Ivy League win of the season, shutting out Cornell 1-0 Saturday night at Stevenson Field. The lone goal of the game was scored in the second half by freshman Ibrahim Diane (Potomac, MD). In goal, sophomore Chris Gomez (Bellflower, CA) recorded his third shutout of the season. The win improves the Bears to 5-4-4 overall and 1-1-2 in the Ivy League.

After a scoreless first half on a rain-soaked Stevenson Field, Brown scored the winning goal of the game at the 73:27 mark. Diane knocked a high shot past Cornell goalie Doug Allen from the center of the box. The goal was Diane's fourth of the season. Junior Julian Jordan (Fort Wayne, IN) picked up an assist on the play for his first point of the season.

The Bears nearly took a 2-0 lead late in the game when a shot by junior Seth Quidachay-Swan (San Francisco, CA) went just wide on an open net. Brown out-shot Cornell 14-11. The Bears defense allowed just three shots in the first half. Gomez recorded seven saves, including a key diving stop in the first half, in the sixth shutout of his career.
