Providence, RI - Starting his first game of the season, senior forward Jamie Granger scored Brown's (10-3-2, 3-1-1) first goal just 1:38 into the game against No. 24 Colgate on Tuesday evening. Senior Brian Joyce and sophomore leading scorer Rhett Bernstein also picked up goals to eventually defeat the Raiders 3-1.
Granger's quick first-half goal that got by Colgate goalkeeper Doug Litvack, came on an assist from Andrew Daniels (Milwaukee WI) who headed the ball to Granger. Granger then tapped it to the left corner of the goal putting Bruno up 1-0.
Brown came out firing shots from left and right and dominated the first half as they outshot Colgate 11-3. After Litvack (4-1-1) left the game after sustaining an injury, Raiders goalkeeper David Cappuccio (3-2-4) stepped in as his replacement. It wasn't long after that when Joyce fired a shot from the left side of the box at 23:17 that got by Cappuccio bringing the score to 2-0.
Just eight minutes after Joyce's unassisted goal, Colgate's Chris Salmon went for an unassisted goal as he chipped one past Brown's Jarrett Leech (Manakin-Sabo, VA)) to put the score at 2-1. But Brown wasn't done scoring as sophomore Darren Howerton (Northboro, MA) threw a perfect flip throw to Bernstein who tapped one in after a scramble in the box just six minutes before halftime. Bernstein's goal increased the Brown's lead to 3-1 and marked his eighth goal of the season.
Leech (7-2-2) recorded two saves in the first half in goal and was replaced in the second half by David Semenza (Honolulu, HI). Although no goals were scored in the second half, Brown outshot Colgate 6-4 and dominated in corner kicks taking six in the compared to Colgate's zero. Semenza (3-1-0) picked up three saves in goal.
