Providence, RI - The Cornell men's soccer team couldn't muster up enough energy to come back from an early 2-0 deficit against Brown on Saturday evening.
Brown's (9-3-2, 3-1-1) first goal was scored just 4:32 into the game off a cross from senior midfielder Ian Premo (Florence, MA) that found the foot of freshman Nick Elenz-Martin (Encinitas, CA). Elenz-Martin pounded the ball in the low right corner past Big Red goalkeeper, Luca Cerretani, to put the Bears ahead 1-0.
Then the flip-throw by Brown's Darren Howerton (Northboro, MA) went to senior Andrew Daniels (Milwaukee, WI) who scored his fifth goal of the season and put Brown up 2-0 with the time at 28:26 to eventually win the game.
Cornell (2-6-4, 1-3-1) had many scoring opportunities, especially in the second half when out-shooting the Bears 8-5. But goalkeeper Jarrett Leech (Manakin-Sabo, VA) stayed calm and collected while racking up eight saves and improving his record to 6-2-2. Both teams ended the game with 15 shot attempts each.
Brown's Rhett Bernstein (San Diego, CA) still leads the team in scoring with seven goals for 14 points followed by Daniels five goals, three assists and 13 points. Bruno is back in action at 7 p.m. on Tuesday against Colgate at Stevenson Field.
