Bears Tie Rams in 3-3 Battle

Oct. 18, 2006

Kingston, RI - Despite scoring three goals against the University of Rhode Island (8-4-4) on Wednesday evening, it wasn't enough for the Brown men's soccer team to pick up a win.

Brown (8-3-2, 2-1-1) tied the Rams 3-3 in a hard fought battle between the two in-state rivals. Prior to the game, URI has won four of the last five meetings.

The Rams scored the first goal on a breakaway by Lukasz Tumicz at 37:08 after receiving a pass from teammate Danleigh Borman. The Bears answered back after halftime off a low shot to the left corner of the net by senior forward Andrew Daniels (Milwaukee, WI) who received a pass from senior midfielder Brian Joyce (Silver Spring, MD). Daniels picked up his fourth goal of the season as Joyce picked up his fourth assist.

Six minutes later, Rhode Island's Borman connected on a pass from Tumicz that went by Brown's goalkeeper, Jarrett Leech (Manakin-Sabo, VA), to put the Rams back on top 2-1.

The Bears scored the next two goals less than two minutes apart - the first being by sophomore Rhett Bernstein (San Diego, CA) off a pass from Joyce at 60:22 and then freshman midfielder Chris Roland (Rochester, NY) snuck one past URI's Chris Pennock to put the Bears ahead 3-2. Bernstein is leading the leading scorer for Brown with 14 points on a team-leading seven goals, two of which have been game-winners.

But Brown couldn't hold onto the lead for long as Jeffrey Gonsalves picked up his 14th goal of the season after going one on one with Leech making it 3-3.

Leech (5-2-2) recorded 10 saves against URI and the Rams Pennock posted one save. The Rams outshot the Bears 21-7 and also picked up 17 fouls to Brown's five.

Bruno will be back in action as they host Cornell at 7 p.m. on Saturday at Stevenson Field.
