Elenz-Martin's Overtime Winner Lifts #14 Bears Past #7 Harvard, 3-2, in Battle for First Place
Sheehan started off the offense at the 14:26 mark when he collected the ball off Harvard's goalie, Adam Hahn, and drove one into the back of the net. Harvard answered back in the 69th minute when Andre Akpan put one past Brown's goalkeeper Paul Grandstrand (Orono, MN) to tie the game 1-1.
However, less than one minute later, Davies found the back of the net on a pass from Sheehan, giving Brown a 2-1 lead. But once again, The Crimson answered back in the 82nd minute after a goal by Kwaku Nyamekye tied the game at two, and sent it into overtime.
The Bears, who thrive under pressure, scored again when junior midfielder Darren Howerton (Northboro, MA) flip-throwed the ball to Sheehan standing in front of the goal. Sheehan tapped the ball toward Harvard's goal, and Elenz-Martin got his foot on it and finished it off.
Grandstrand tallied eight saves and increased his record to 6-0-1. The victory was also Brown's second win over a Top 10 team this week, having beaten #5 Boston College earlier in the week. Brown is back in action on Oct. 20 when they take on Cornell in Ithaca, NY.
