Providence, RI - The men's soccer team earned its third tie of the season with a 1-1 score at home against 25th ranked Columbia Saturday night. The Bears now stand at 3-3-3 on the season and 0-1-1 in Ivy League play.
Columbia narrowly missed taking a 1-0 lead early in the game when a shot by the Lions' Craig Smart hit the crossbar. It was Brown, however, that got on the board first in the 33rd minute when freshman Keith Caldwell (Braintree, MA) crossed the ball to junior Seth Quidachay-Swan(San Francisco, CA) for his third goal of the season.
Columbia tied the game two minutes later when a free kick by the Lions' Tommy McMenemy slipped out of the hands of sophomore goalkeeper Chris Gomez (Bellflower, CA).
After a scoreless second half, the game went into overtime. With 20 seconds remaining in the second overtime period, freshman Ibrahim Diane (Potomac, MD) missed wide on an open net rebound. After two Brown corner kicks in the final 20 seconds, the game ended in a 1-1 deadlock.
The Bears out-shot the Lions 18-10. In goal for Brown, Gomez had three saves. The Lions' Dean Arnaoutakis recorded five saves in net.
Brown continues action on Tuesday Oct. 15 at 4:00 p.m. when it hosts Providence College.
