Chestnut Hill, MA - Sophomore forward Dylan Sheehan (Wolfville, Nova Scotia) was the spark the Brown men's soccer team needed while facing a tough non-league opponent, Boston College (6-5-0) on Tuesday evening. Sheehan scored in the 60th minute of play to snap a 1-1 tie to lead No. 21 Brown to a 2-1 victory.
Brown senior Brian Joyce (Silver Spring, MD) recorded his first goal of the year at Newton Campus Soccer Field, as he scored off a loose ball in the box at 43:09 to bring the Bears up 1-0. Sheehan received the assist.
However, Boston College came out of half-time ready to play and tied the game 1-1 when Eagles junior Charlie Davies scores his 12th goal of the season at 48:48. The Bears (7-1-1, 1-0-1) weren't going to settle for a tie, as Sheehan finished a touch pass in front of the net from freshman Nick Elenz-Martin (Encinitas, CA) at 60 minutes.
Both teams recorded six shots, but Boston College held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Brown made up for it by being a more disciplined team while only collecting eight fouls as opposed to Boston College's 14.
Brown's senior goalkeeper David Semenza (Honolulu, HI) recorded one save to earn his second victory of the season. His record is 2-0-0. The Eagles junior goalkeeper Chris Brown also recorded one save and now has a record of 2-1-0.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Princeton for a 7 p.m. game.
