Bears Handed First Loss; Fall 1-0 to Terriers

Oct. 2, 2007

Providence, RI - The #10 ranked Brown men's soccer team (6-1-1) suffered its first loss of the season as they dropped a 1-0 decision to Boston University (5-4-0) on Tuesday night.

While the game was scoreless in the first half, both teams battled back and forth while each picked up four shots on goal. Brown junior Dylan Sheehan (Wolfville, NS) had a great opportunity in the 21st minute of play when he headed a ball that went just above the goalkeeper's reach, but hit the crossbar. Also with a great opportunity was sophomore Christopher Roland (Rochester, NY) who breezed by multiple BU defenders and blasted one right at Hrafn Davidsson in goal.

But chances are all Brown would get, as BU was able to convert one of their eight shots on goal in the 63rd minute of play. Terriers' forward Aaron O'Neal got through the Bears' stellar defense and sent one to the low right corner. Brown's goalkeeper Jarrett Leech (Manakin-Sabot, VA) dove to the left, but the ball was just out of his reach and found the back of the net.

Both teams played great defense, as Leech tallied four saves on the night and Davidsson had two. Brown led the game in shots 10-8, and also held a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks.

The Bears will open up Ivy League play on Saturday, when they take on the Princeton Tigers at 7:00 p.m.
