Bears Tie #4 Cal In Defensive Showdown

Stanford, CA - In a defensive battle, the Brown men's soccer team broke the University of California's six game-win streak on Friday with a 0-0 double overtime tie at the Stanford Nike Tournament.The Cal Bears, ranked fourth in the latest Soccer America poll, were a perfect 6-0-0 on the year.

The Bears, now 3-2-1, were led defensively by senior All-American Jeff Larentowicz and senior goalkeeper Chris Gomez, who recorded seven saves on the night, including three in the second overtime. Cal out-shot Brown 13-6 while holding a 6-0 advantage on corner kicks. Junior Ibrhaim Diane registered three shots for the Bears.

Brown will face its second of three ranked opponents this week on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. ET against #5 Stanford in the final day of competition at the Cardinal Tournament. The Bears will then head back home for a game at #24 University of Rhode Island on Wednesday night.
