Brown men's soccer team ties with Dartmouth

Sept. 23, 2006

Hanover, NH - The Brown University men's soccer team (5-1-1, 0-0-1) tied Dartmouth (2-2-3, 0-0-1) in the 2006 Ivy League opener on Saturday afternoon. Last season, the Bears tied Dartmouth 2-2 in the Ivy finale and shared the title with both Dartmouth and Yale.

In the 1-1 tie at Chase Field, it was evident that neither team wanted to lose. Both teams picked up three yellow cards a piece during an intense Ivy opener.

While both teams played even throughout both halves, Dartmouth freshman midfielder Daniel Keat scored the first goal of the afternoon on a bicycle kick from 12 yards out after a cross from junior midfielder Mike Ordonez in the second half with the time at 59:44.

Then, Brown sophomore forward Dylan Sheehan (Wolfville, Nova Scotia) came up big for the Bears with a header off a cross from senior midfielder Brian Joyce (Silver Spring, MD) to tie the game at 1-1 with the time at 63:30. The goal was Sheehan's first of the season.

As a team, the Bears took 19 total shots against the Big Green and posted eight shots on goal. Dartmouth recorded 21 shots and had nine on goal. In the goal for the Bears was sophomore Jarrett Leech (Manakin-Sabo, VA) who had eight saves to bring his record to 4-1-1.

Brown will be back on Stevenson Field at 7 p.m. on Saturday against Ivy League opponent, Columbia.
