Providence, RI - Dylan Sheehan (Wolfville, NS) picked up another goal in today's battle against the University of Rhode Island (1-4-0) helping #21 Brown (4-0-0) to a 1-0 victory over the Rams at Stevenson Field.
Both teams came out of the gates fired up and showed the fans a very aggressive and competitive first-half. Brown and URI each had a few chances to get on the scoreboard, but stellar defense played on each side of the field kept it scoreless heading into halftime.
After a Rhode Island foul, junior Darren Howerton (Northboro, MA) jumped in to take the kick from the right corner of the field. Sheehan met the ball with his head and directed it to the high left corner of the goal just over Rhode Island's Chris Pennock (1-4-0) to put the score at 1-0 at the 59:59 mark. Howerton tallied his third consecutive assist for Bruno, as Sheehan posted his fourth consecutive goal.
Pennock ended the game with six saves, and Brown junior goalkeeper Jarrett Leech (Manakin-Sabot, VA) recorded five. Leech tallied his first shutout of the season and is now 2-0-0.
The Bears will host St. Francis at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, before heading to California for a tournament at the University of San Diego. Brown will take on USD on Friday, Sept. 21 at 10:00 p.m. EST, and Cal-Irvine at 3:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, Sept. 23.
