Brown Suffers First Loss of Season to Defending National Champs North Carolina 5-0 at adidas/Brown Classic

Providence, RI - Sophomore forward Ryan Kneipper scored a goal and added an assist to lead the defending National Champion North Carolina men's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Brown on the second day of the adidas/Brown soccer Classic at Stevenson Field.

North Carolina, who lost to Yale on Friday night in the first round of the tournament, got bon the scoreboard early when senior Matt Crawford stole the ball from a Brown defender, dribbled in and drilled the ball past Brown sophomore goalkeeper David Mahoney at the 8:06 mark.

The Tar Heels opened a 2-0 lead when Kneipper dribbled down the left side, crossed to sophomore Jonathan Davis, who headed the ball into the net at the 28:29 mark. Kneipper gave Carolina a 3-0 advantage when he picked off an errant Brown pass at the top of the box and drilled the ball into the net five minutes later.

North Carolina broke the game open at the 54:11 mark when junior Sean McGinty scored on a header on a scramble in front of the Brown net, giving the Tar Heels a 4-0 lead. Senior Mike Gell added one more goal for the Tar Heels at 84:23 for a final score of 5-0.

Freshman Ibrahim Diane and junior Adom Crew were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Bears. Crawford, sophomore Ray Fumo, and junior Logan Pause were named All-Tournament for the Tar Heels.
