Brown Men's Soccer Earns 3-3 Tie with Michigan

Providence, RI - The Brown University men's soccer team kicked off its 2002 season with a 3-3 tie against the University of Michigan Friday night at Stevenson Field at the adidas/Brown Classic.
The Wolverines (2-1-1) jumped on the board early in the game at 2:39 when Mychal Turpin headed the ball past Brown sophomore goalkeeper David Mahoney. After nearly 40 minutes of scoreless action, Brown answered when senior Dustin Branan scored on a penalty kick at 43:47. Ending that half in a 1-1 tie.
Michigan took the lead two minutes into the second half when Tom Gritter headed in a shot off a rebound from Kevin Robinson. Brown's Seth Quidachay-Swan tied the game three minutes later at 50:40 on a cross from junior Adom Crew. Also picking up an assist on the goal was sophomore Jeff Larentowicz.
The Bears took the lead, 3-2, at 74:31 when freshman Ibrahim Diane scored on a pass from senior Omar Macedo. With three minutes left in regulation, Michigan's Knox Cameron scored on a penalty kick, knotting the game at 3-3. After two overtime periods, the scored remained tied, ending the game in a deadlock.
The Bears were out shot 19-14 by the Wolverines on the night. Mahoney had seven saves in net for Brown.
Brown will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 15, when they will play defending national champion North Carolina for the final game of the adidas/Brown Classic at 1:30 p.m.
