CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Jack Hagstrom (Middleton, Wis.) evened the score late in the first half as the Brown men's soccer team tied Harvard, 1-1, in Saturday night's Ivy League matchup at Jordan Field.
Brown moved to 6-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the Ivy League, while Harvard now stands at 2-7-3, 1-1-1.
Senior Joey Cipicchio (Columbus, Ohio) made five stops, recording at least five saves for the third time this season. Kyle Parks also have five saves for the Crimson.
Harvard struck first at 20:28 when Philip Hausen knocked down a pass in front of the net and followed with a shot into the right corner of the goal for the early lead.
Hagstrom notched the equalizer in the 37th minute with his first goal of the season. After Quinn English (Milwaukee, Wis.) launched a throw-in into the box, Hagstrom corralled the ball and quickly sent a shot past Parks to even the score, 1-1. Harvard held a slim edge in shots at the end of the first, 8-7.
The second half was evenly matched as both teams registered two shots on goal, but neither side found the back of the net, forcing the game to extra time.
Brown edged Harvard in shots on goal during the two overtime periods, including a shot by English late in the first OT stanza that was turned away by a Crimson defender. Parks also made two saves to end the second overtime period, denying English and Rodrigo D'Andrea (Sao Paulo, Brazil) to salvage a draw.
Brown and Harvard were even in shots, 21-21. Brown won the battle for corner kicks, 7-3.
The Bears return to action next Saturday, October 21, when they visit Cornell at 4:30 PM.
