Maurey and Taylor Named Brown Men’s Soccer Captains for 2014 Season
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's soccer head coach Patrick Laughlin has announced that juniors Ben Maurey (Downingtown, Pa.) and Daniel Taylor (Greenwich, Conn.) have been named captains for the upcoming 2014 season, in a vote by members of the team.
"I am very pleased with the selection of Ben and Daniel as captains for our 2014 team," said Laughlin. "They are both strong leaders and will represent our team identity and culture well. I am looking forward to seeing them lead this year's squad."
Maurey, who appeared in three games last fall before suffering a season-ending injury, will return as team captain for the second straight year. Maurey put together an outstanding sophomore campaign, when he was named First Team All-Ivy after leading the Bears in scoring with 12 points behind five goals, including four game-winning tallies.
Taylor will serve as team captain for the first time in his career after an impressive junior season last fall. An All-Ivy Second Team selection as a midfielder, Taylor started all 16 games played, and finished tied for third in the Ivy League and first on the team with five assists. He also registered three goals to finish with 11 points on the season.
The duo helped lead Brown to the NCAA Tournament in two of the last three seasons, including the NCAA Sweet Sixteen round in 2011.
