Men’s Soccer Upended by Butler, 3-0

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – David Goldsmith scored a pair of goals for Butler as the Brown men's soccer team dropped a non-league road game to the Bulldogs, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at the Butler Bowl. Brown drops to 1-4-1 on the season with a loss while Butler improves to 5-1-1 overall.

Goldsmith scored the first of his two goals in the 19th minute on a feed from Vincent Mitchell to give the home side the 1-0 lead at halftime. Butler held a 5-3 edge in shots during the opening 45 minutes on play.

Goldsmith scored his second goal of the day and fifth of the season at 52:14 when Zach Steinberger sent a pass in front of the Brown net, setting up a shot from about eight yards out to give the Bulldogs the lead, 2-0.

Butler scored the final goal in the 65th minute when Brandon Fricke headed home a pass from Jeff Adkins to seal the three-goal victory.

Freshman Nate Pomeroy (Groton, Mass.) led the Bears with three shots, while senior Voltaire Escalona (Blue Bell, Pa.) and sophomore Tariq Akeel (Rochester, Hills, Mich.) notched two shots apiece. Senior Josh Weiner (Armonk, N.Y.) made five saves in net for the visitors. Butler outshot the Bears by a margin of 11-7.
