Men’s Soccer Falls at Indiana, 2-1

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior Jose Salama (Madrid, Spain) notched his first goal of the season, but the Brown men's soccer team fell to reigning national champion Indiana, 2-1, Friday evening at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Bears drop to 1-3-1 on the season while the Hoosiers improve to 3-3-1 overall.

Indiana opened up the scoring in the 27th minute when Dylan Mares blasted a free kick from about 23 yards out for the unassisted goal to give the home side the lead, 1-0. The Hoosiers outshot the Bears by a 7-2 margin in the opening 45 minutes and held a one-goal advantage at intermission.

Brown continued to battle back in the second half and finally broke through with the equalizer in the 73rd minute. Freshman Jason Pesek (St. Louis, Mo.) started the play with a pass into the box, where Salama gained position and headed a shot to the back post to even the score at 1-1.

The Hoosiers struck back less than a minute later, however, with a goal at 72:45 to take back the lead. A.J. Corrado sent a free kick in front of the Brown net to Nikita Kotlov, who headed the ball past Brown keeper Josh Weiner (Armonk, N.Y.) for the 2-1 advantage and eventual victory.

Weiner made four saves in net for the Bears while Michael Soderlund posted two saves on the other end. Salama paced the Bears with four shots in the contest, but the Hoosiers outshot the visitors, 13-8.
