Providence, RI- Brown University freshman defender Alex Markes (Valenvia, CA) helped the Brown men's soccer team to a 3-0 record last week en route to claiming their second straight Brown Soccer Classic title to earn Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors.
Markes has made an immediate impact on the team, playing every minute of all three victories while leading a backline that conceded just one goal in the three games.
On the season, Markes is the only freshman to start all four games for Brown. He is the first Bear to earn Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors since Oct. 26, 2009 when his teammate Thomas McNamara (West Nyack, NY) collected Rookie of the Week accolades.
The Bears are back in action Sept. 16-18 at the Gamecock Classic hosted at South Carolina. The Bears challenge the Gamecocks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 and will then take on Kentucky at 11 a.m. on Sept. 18.
