No. 11 Bears Suffer 1-0 Loss To Providence College in Opening Game of Ocean State Classic

Providence, RI- Providence College sophomore forward Greg Davis scored in the 69th minute to help lead the Friars (2-1) to a 1-0 victory over the No. 11 Brown men's soccer team (0-1) in the semifinals of the second annual Ocean State Soccer Classic at PC's Glay Field. The Bears will now play the loser of the Bryant/URI game in the consolation match at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5 in Kingston, R.I.

After a scoreless first half in which the Bears held a 5-3 advantage in shots, the Friars were able to come up with the score in the 69th minute of play when Davis headed the ball in from eight yards out after a cross from David Datilus.

The Bears had a few good looks on net to even the score, but PC keeper Jhogan Obando was able to pick up five saves in goal to keep Brown off the scoreboard. Brown rookie goalkeeper Alex Carr played all 90 minutes in net and received his first loss of the year.

Brown outshot Providence 14-5 for the game and held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. Senior Taylor Gorman led the attack with four shots, while TJ Popolizio and Sean Rosa both had two shots on goal this afternoon.
