Providence, RI- Brown University junior Evan Coleman (Amherst, MA) and sophomore Thomas McNamara (West Nyack, NY) have earned CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-District honors. As midfielders, both are making their first appearance on the team, as both nominations will now be forwarded on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The team is selected by voting members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Coleman has proven to be a fierce competitor on the Brown men's soccer team as he has helped Brown to a 10-2-3 record this fall. He has started in all 15 games for Bruno and has scored one goal, a game-winner in a thrilling 1-0 defeat of St. John's University, and has handed out two assists. An English concentrator, Coleman scored his first goal in a 3-0 victory over Vermont and the second in a 2-0 win against Holy Cross. He has helped the Bears to two NCAA Tournament Appearances during his three years.
McNamara, Brown's leading scorer last season, has started in 13 of 15 games this year and has contributed 3 goals and two assists. The Commerce, Organizations and Entrepreneurship concentrator added one tally in Brown's 2-1 win over Indiana University, and scored both goals for the Bears in their 2-0 win over Cornell.
Both midfielders have helped the Brown squad surrender just six goals and combine for 11 shutouts on the year.
