Providence, RI- After defeating Bryant 4-0 in the first round of the inaugural Ocean State Soccer Classic on Friday, the Brown men's soccer team (1-0-0) will host Providence College on Stevenson Field in the championship game at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 6.
In Brown's victory against the Bulldogs, junior midfielder Taylor Gorman (Freeport, ME) led the offense with two goals, while junior Sean Rosa (Montreal, Quebec) and senior Jon Okafor (Verona, NJ) netted one to help the Bears to the win. Leading the defense was senior goalkeeper Paul Grandstand, (Orono, MN) who earned two saves in net.
Providence is coming off a 2-1 victory over the University of Rhode Island on Thursday afternoon at Glay Field. Friar freshman Greg Davis tallied two goals in his collegiate debut, including the game-winner with 2:56 remaining in the second half. Senior goalkeeper Jhojan Obando earned four saves in the 90 minutes of play.
The Bears own a 14-5-6 all-time record against Providence College, dating back to the 1974 season. Brown's last win came in the 2004 season when it defeated PC 3-2, but Providence won the last outing in 2006, 2-1.
Rhode Island and Bryant will be playing in the consolation match prior to the championship game at 1:00 p.m.
