Providence, RI - Brown men's lacrosse coach Scott Nelson, coming off a 9-5 season, announced that seniors Chazz Woodson (Virginia Beach, VA), Chris Mucciolo (Manhasset, NY), Britton Derkac (Virginia Beach, VA) and Dan Spinosa (Massapequa, NY) have been named team captains for the upcoming season.
Woodson, a second team All-Ivy and first team All-New England attackman, scored for a career high 32 goals, which ranked second best in the Ivy League. His 48 total points were also second among all Ivy League players. Woodson, who led this year's team with four game-winning goals, netted a career high five goals against Fairfield, scored four goals against Loyola and Hartford, and added three goals against Providence. He also picked-up 25 ground balls for the season, tied for fourth on the Brown team.
Mucciolo, an honorable mention All-Ivy selection, was Brown's second leading scorer a year ago with 20 goals, and ranked third in overall scoring with 24 points. He tied his career high with four goals against Sacred Heart, and added three goals against Syracuse. Mucciolo also tied for the team lead with five extra man goals.
An honorable mention All-Ivy selection, Derkac started all 14 games in the Brown midfield, registering 12 goals, third best on last year's team. He netted three goals against Princeton, registering his first career hat-trick. Derkac ranked second on the Brown team in ground balls with 40 for the season.
Spinosa, along-stick midfielder, picked up 24 ground balls a year ago, and has played in 42 games for the Bears. He's a smart, fast and strong defender who covers the opposition's top middie. He also plays on the man-down unit.
This year's team returns nine starters to the lineup, and opens its season on March 5, 2005 against Hofstra at Stevenson Field.
