The Brown men's lacrosse team announced their captains for the upcoming 2003 season naming Jon Thompson, Mike Levin, and Matt Winkler. These three will help the Bears battle for the Ivy League title and an NCAA Tournament berth this season.
Jon Thompson (Freeport, ME) '03 was a leading scorer for the Bears for a second consecutive season, registering 28 goals and 12 assists for 40 points. He scored 4 goals in the Ivy League championship game against Princeton on the final day of the season. He also scored three goals against Yale. A second team All-Ivy honoree, Thompson's 13 goals in Ivy games also led the Bears.
Mike Levin (Pittsford, NY) '04 was spectacular in goal for the Bears last season posting a .602 save percentage and allowing 9.38 goals a game. A first team All-New England and first team All-Ivy selection, Levin made a season high 20 saves against Cornell, and registered double figure saves in 13 of Brown's 14 games. His 18 save performance against number-one Syracuse is recognized as one of the top performances in the country last season.
Matt Winkler (West Islip, NY) '03 is a face-off and defensive specialist who captured 63 of 147 face-offs. He picked up 27 groundballs for last year's team. Winkler will be counted on to develop into an offensive threat in 2003.
The Brown team completed the 2002 season with a 7-7 overall ledger, 4-2 in the Ivy League, while narrowly missing the Ivy League title after falling to Princeton in the final game of the season.
