Chas Gessner Named Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week

Junior midfielder Chas Gessner (Hyattsville, MD) was named the Warrior/Inside Lacrosse National Player of the Week after keeping Brown's Ivy League and postseason hops alive by scoring an overtime goal against seventh-ranked Cornell.
Gessner scored the game-tying goal with 1:24 remaining in regulation, and netted the winning goal at 1:07 of the second overtime period, to lift the Bears to a 9-8 double overtime victory over the Big Red in Ithaca, New York. Gessner scored four goals in the pivotal Ivy game, and assisted on Brown's sixth and seventh goals in the fourth quarter.
Earlier in the week, Gessner scored a goal and had three assists against Providence College, to finish the week with five goals and five assists.
Brown (7-6, 4-1 Ivy) will host defending national champion Princeton (7-4, 4-1 Ivy) on Saturday (5/4/02) at Stevenson Field to determine the winner of the Ivy League Championship and automatic NCAA Playoff berth. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
