Providence, RI - Following an overtime loss to UMBC, coach Lars Tiffany `90 and the Brown men's lacrosse team will open their home season on Saturday, March 3 at the Erickson Athletic Complex Field Turf field, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The Bears dropped a heartbreaking 12-11 overtime decision to UMBC in their season opener on Saturday, despite four goals by senior tri-captain Alex Buckley and two goals each by senior Tyler Gaffney, sophomore Jack Walsh and senior Will Davis. The Bears rallied from a 10-5 third quarter deficit to tie the game, 11-11, on Buckley's fourth goal with 5:26 remaining in regulation. The Bears also received a strong performance from sophomore goalie Jordan Burke, who made 18 saves in the Brown goal.
14th-ranked Hofstra is coming off an 8-6 victory over #9 UMass Saturday afternoon.
The Series Record: Brown and Hofstra have met 20 times, dating back to 1976, with the series tied, 10-10. Last year, the Flying Dutchmen came away with a 14-4 win over the Bears. Brown's last win over Hofstra came in 2005, when the Bears earned a 10-2 victory.
Head Coach Lars Tiffany: Bears' first year head coach Lars Tiffany is a 1990 Brown graduate and a two-year Brown lacrosse captain under then Brown coach Dom Starsia. He played on two Brown teams that earned NCAA Tournament berths and played in the North-South Senior All-Star Game. He comes to Brown after a two-year head coaching stint at Stony Brook.
