#16 Brown Laxers Drop 11-7 Decision To #8 Cornell

Ithaca, New York - Despite four goals by Bears' junior Kyle Hollingsworth, #16 Brown (10-3, 4-1) saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end with an 11-7 loss to #8 Cornell (10-3, 5-1).
At 4-1 in the Ivy League standings, the Bears can still gain a share of the Ivy title with a victory over Princeton next Saturday, May 3, in Providence. A win next week would tie the Bears with Cornell for the Ivy title at 5-1 in the Ivy standings.
After falling behind by an early 1-0 margin, Bears' junior Kyle Hollingsworth scored three straight goals to lift the Bears to a 3-1 advantage with 9:21 left in the quarter. John Hurley scored for the Big Red to cut the Bears lead to 3-2 after one quarter.
Sophomore Thomas Muldoon's first goal early in the second quarter lifted the Bears to a 4-2 lead with 13:23 left in the second quarter, but Cornell scored four straight goals to close the second quarter and netted the first goal of the third quarter to build a 7-4 advantage.
Bears' freshman Andrew Feinberg and Muldoon scored to cut the Big Red lead to 7-6 midway through the third quarter. Ryan Hurley and John Espey scored for the Big Red to build a 9-6 lead, but Hollingsworth answered with his fourth goal to bring the Bears to within 9-7 of the Big Red after three quarters.
Espy and Hurley added fourth quarter goals for the Big Red to account for the final score, 11-7.
Junior goalie Jordan Burke made nine saves in goal for the Bears, while Big Red goalie Jake Myers made 13 saves in goal for the Big Red. Hollingsworth led the Bears' offense with four goals, while Hurley scored four goals and added an assist for Cornell.
Next Saturday's Ivy League's showdown between Brown and Princeton will face-off at 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field. Brown will honor its six seniors in pre-game ceremonies.
