Providence, Rhode Island - Junior Chazz Woodson, junior Britton Derkac and freshman Dave Madeira scored 2 goals each to lead the 16th-ranked Brown men's lacrosse team to a 9-6 Ivy League win over 20th ranked Dartmouth at Stevenson Field. The win lifts the Bears to 8-3 overall, 2-2 Ivy, while the Big Green falls to 7-4, 2-2 Ivy.
Dartmouth's only lead of the game came when Russell Radebaugh opened the scoring with an unassisted goal with 11:56 left in the first quarter. Brown quickly answered with three unanswered goals by Madeira, Derkac and junior George Bassett, giving the Bears a 3-1 advantage with 7:22 remaining in the quarter. After Ryan Danehy scored for the Big Green, Woodson and Derkac netted goals for the Bears to lift Brown to a 5-2 halftime advantage.
Dartmouth's Ben Grinnell scored the first goal of the second half, but Woodson got it right back for the Bears followed by a goal by Chris Mucciolo with 1:58 left in the third quarter to give Brown its biggest lead, 7-3.
The Big Green drew to within 7-5 of the Bears on goals by Danhey and Jamie Coffin early in the fourth quarter. Brown's Rory Hyland and Dartmouth's Coffin exchanged goals before Maderia put the game away for the Bears, giving Brown the final margin of victory, 9-6, with 4:20 remaining in the game.
Brown's All-American goalie Mike Levin turned in a strong performance, making 11 saves. Dartmouth's Andrew Goldstein registered 11 saves in goal for the Big Green.
Brown will be back in action on Tuesday, April 27, against cross-town rival Providence on the Providence College campus. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
