Providence, Rhode Island - Senior Will Davis (Falls Church, VA) and freshman Thomas Muldoon (Oakton, VA) scored three goals each to lead Brown to a 14-8 non-league men's lacrosse win over Hartford at Stevenson Field. The win lifts the Bears to 7-5 overall, while Hartford drops to 2-11 overall.
The outcome of the game was never in doubt as Brown opened a 5-1 first quarter lead and led by as many as eight goals, 9-1, on a goal by senior David Madeira (Norwich, VT) with 4:50 remaining in the second quarter. Davis scored all three of his goals in the 9-1 spurt, while junior Jeff Hall (Northport, NY) added two goals.
The Bears held a 9-3 lead at the half and extended the lead to 11-3 after three quarters on goals by Muldoon and senior Michael Bernard (Upper Arlington, OH).
Hartford made a late run at the Bears scoring five of the next six goals to pull to within four goals of the Bears, 12-8, on a goal by freshman Justin Bearse with 4:53 left in the game.
The Bears quickly shut the door on goals by Muldoon and sophomore Kyle Hollingsworth (Darien, CT) for the final margin of victory. Hollingsworth registered three assists to go with his lone goal, while senior Alex Buckley (Ridgewood, NJ) had a goal and two assists for the Bears.
Senior goalie Chandler Clarke (Lloyd Harbor, NY) got the start for the Bears but was injured with 1:37 remaining in the first quarter and the Bears leading 9-1. Sophomore Todd Faiella (Marshfield, MA) entered the game for Brown and made nine saves for the remaining 46:37 of the game, while allowing eight goals.
Hartford was led by Rob Steffens and Brian Tilley with two goals each.
The Bears will return to Ivy League action next Saturday, April 28, hosting number-one ranked Cornell. Game time is 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
