#10 Brown Outlasts Yale in Ivy League Opener, 12-11

new Haven, CT - Freshman attackman David Madeira scored four goals and senior goalie Mike Levin made a point blank save with three seconds remaining to lead the 10th ranked Brown men's lacrosse team to a 12-11 Ivy League win over Yale in the Bears Ivy opener. The win lifts Brown to 7-1 overall, 1-0 Ivy, while Yale drops to 4-4, 1-3 in Ivy play.

The Bears seemed to be in control of the game when junior attackman Chazz Woodson gave Brown a 12-8 lead with 2:21 remaining to play. The Bulldog scored three straight goals in the span of 32 seconds, one by Ned Britt, one by Daniel Brillman and the last by Seth Goldberg with 56 seconds remaining. The All-American Levin made his 16th save of the game his biggest when he stopped Yale's game--tying attempt with three seconds left in regulation.

With the score tied, 3-3, freshman Will Davis' unassisted goal with 1:30 remaining in the first quarter ignited a 4-0 Brown spurt that lifted the Bears to a 7-3 lead at the half. Brown's final goal of the half was scored by junior Chazz Woodson, who took a pass in front of the goal from sophomore Kyle Wailes, and fired a shot into the goal over his right shoulder.

Brown's Rory Hyland scored just 12 seconds into the second half to lift Brown to its biggest lead, 7-3. The Bulldogs rallied to score four of the game's next five goals to pull to within 9-7, on Brillman goal at the 14:41 mark of the fourth quarter.

Goals by Woodson and Madeira put the Bears up, 11-7 and Goldberg scored for the Elis to pull to within 11-8. That's when Woodson scored to give the Bears a 12-8 lead.

While Madeira's four goals led the Bears, Woodson, Hyland, and Chris Mucciolo scored two each. For Yale, Seth Goldberg scored a game high 6 goals, while Brillman added two goals.

Levin's 16 saves included five in the fourth quarter. Yale's Jordan Ellis made 7 saves for the Elis.

The Bears will return home for a key Ivy game against Harvard on Tuesday, April 13. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at Stevenson Field.
