Newark, Delaware - Junior Kyle Hollingsworth (Darien, CT) scored two goals and handed out four assists, while freshman Andrew Feinberg (Owing Mille, MD) and junior Reade Seligmann (Essex Falls, NJ) added two goals each, to lead the Brown men's lacrosse team to its fifth consecutive victory, a 9-6 win over 14th-ranked Delaware at Rullo Stadium.
The win gives the Bears a 6-2 record for the season, while the Blue Hens fall to 7-3.
Hollingsworth gave the Bears an early 1-0 lead before the Blue Hens tied the game, 1-1, with 4:59 left in the quarter. Feinberg's goal with 2:32 left in the quarter gave Brown the lead for good, 2-1, and ignited a 6-0 Brown run that extended into the fourth quarter.
The Bears stretched their lead to 4-1 at the half on Hollingsworth's second goal, assisted by junior Jack Walsh (Chevy Chase, MD), and sophomore Nicholas Melvin's (North Portsmouth, VA) first career goal, converting a Hollingsworth pass, with 8:29 remaining in the half.
Goals by sophomore Thomas Muldoon (Oakton, VA), on a Hollingsworth assist, and Seligmann from Muldoon, helped the Bears build a 6-1 advantage after three quarters.
Bears' head coach Lars Tiffany wanted to get the Bears off to a quick start to open the fourth quarter and Feinberg answered the call by scoring his second goal of the game from a Hollingsworth pass, to lift the Bears a 7-1 lead with 14:10 left in the game.
Delaware countered with two quick goals to make a late run at the Bears, but Seligmann scored his second goal with 5:02 left in the game to put the Bears up, 8-3. After a Delaware goal, Walsh gave the Bears a 9-4 lead with his first goal of the game with just 1:58 left on the clock. Three late scores by the Blue Hens accounted for the final score.
After surrendering a first quarter goal, Bears' junior goalie Jordan Burke (Potomac, MD) held Delaware scoreless into the fourth quarter, keeping the Blue Hens scoreless for 39 minutes and 17 seconds. Although Delaware out-shot the Bears by a 51-31 margin, the difference in the game was Burke's 16 saves.
Martin Cahill led the Blue Hens with three goals and an assist.
Brown will be back in action on Friday, April 4, opening its Ivy League season against Yale in New Haven. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
