Bears Toppled By Denver at Pioneer Face-Off Classic

Denver, CO - Brown traveled to west to face Denver and former Brown standout Jamie Munro `89, the head coach of the Pioneers, in the opening round of the Pioneer Face-Off Classic. Denver rallied from a 5-4 halftime deficit to defeat the Bears, 11-8.

Junior Jack Walsh, sophomore Thomas Muldoon and freshman Andrew Feinberg scored two goals each to lead the Bears, while junior goalie Jordan Burke registered 11 saves.

Brown and Denver were tied 2-2 after one quarter, but the Pioneers grabbed a 3-2 lead early in the second quarter. Walsh and Feinberg gave the Bears a 4-3 lead, before Denver knotted the score, 4-4, with 3:26 left in the quarter.

Junior Kyle Hollingsworth's goal on a pass from Collins Carey with 2:48 left in the half gave the Bears a 5-4 lead heading into the half.

Denver broke the game open with six straight goals, three in the third quarter and the first three of the fourth quarter, to build a 10-4 advantage. A late goal by Walsh and two by Muldoon closed out the Brown scoring.

The Bears won't have a lot of rest in the high altitude, playing Air Force in the second round of the tournament on Sunday, beginning at 11:00 a.m. MST.
