#18 Bears Take 7-3 Decision Over Quinnipiac

March 6, 2009

Box Score

Providence, R.I. - The Bears used strong first and fourth quarters to take a 7-3 win over a pesky Quinnipiac squad on Friday afternoon, scoring three goals in both the opening and closing frames. Sophomore Andrew Feinberg (Owing Mills, MD) and senior Kyle Hollingsworth (Darien, CT) were the keys on offense for Bruno, combining for five goals and an assist. All-American goalie Jordan Burke also turned in a strong performance, giving up just a pair of goals before leaving with two minutes left in the contest.

With the win, Brown improves to 2-1 on the season, while Quinnipiac drops to 1-3 in the early going.

The first quarter started auspiciously for the Bears, as Quinnipiac scored the first goal of the game just under five minutes into the action. The Bobcats took advantage of a nice pass into goal, and Ted Dimond fired in the initial score. However, Brown roared back with three unanswered goals in the frame, including two in a span of just over a minute near the midway point. Feinberg put the Bears on the board, scoring on a quick pass from defenseman Jake Hardy (Framingham, MA) to tie the game. Junior Thomas Muldoon (Oakton, VA) and Hollingsworth also chipped in on the scoring, giving Bruno a 3-1 advantage after the first 15 minutes.

Despite the deficit, the Bobcats refused to go quietly, as they locked in on defense in the second quarter, and somehow found a way to continually stifle good opportunities for Brown. Though it looked as though the score might remain at 3-1 through the first half, Quinnipiac found the back of the net again with just over a minute remaining, cutting the margin to a single goal heading into the locker rooms.

Hard-nosed defense was once again the rule in the third quarter, as just a single goal was scored in the frame, this time by the Bears, as Hollingsworth got on the scoresheet with his second of the game.

In the final period, Brown regained its offensive rhythm, scoring three goals in the first 13 minutes of the period for a comfortable 7-2 lead.

The Bears will be back in action on Sunday, March 8, when they host Denver at 1 p.m.
