Providence, RI - Sophomore Tom Muldoon and freshman Andrew Feinberg scored two goals each to lead Brown (1-0) to a 10-4 season opening victory over Lehigh at Meister-Kavan Field.
Lehigh got on the scoreboard first on a goal by Matt Diehl with 12:49 left in the first quarter. But the Bears took control of the game with four straight scores on goals by junior Nic Bell, Feinberg, junior Reade Seligmann and Muldoon to grab a 4-1 advantage with 10:05 left in the second quarter. The Mountain Hawks' Ricky Cornetta scored with 1:29 left in the second quarter, but Brown freshman Peter Fallon scored a man-down goal with 1:14 left in the half to give the Bears a 5-2 halftime advantage.
After Lehigh pulled to within three goals, 5-3, early in the third quarter, Brown scored three consecutive goals to put the game away, with senior Mike Cummins, Feinberg and sophomore Collins Carey netting goals for the Bears. Jon Stumpf scored for the Mountain Hawks to make the score 8-4 in favor of the Bears in the fourth quarter. Brown goals by Muldoon and freshman Jeffrey Foote iced the game for the Bears in the last 10 minutes.
Muldoon added three assists to go with his two goals, while Bell, Carey and Seligmann added one assist each for the Bears.
Bears' junior goalie Jordan Burke was brilliant in net, making 13 saves. Freshman Matt Chriss played the last two minutes for the Bears and made his first career save, without allowing a goal. Eric Spirko registered three saves in goal for Lehigh.
The Bears will be back in action once again next Saturday, March 1, on the road against Hofstra in Hempstead, New York. Game time is 3:00 p.m. at Shuart Stadium.
