Position: Assistant Coach

Former Centenary College head coach Michael Brand have been named an assistant men’s lacrosse coaches at Brown in an announcement made by Brown head coach Lars Tiffany.

Brand earned his bachelor's degree in communications at Buffalo State in 2005 and his masters in instructional technology at Misericordia in 2008.

Brand was the head lacrosse coach at Centenary College, as well as Caddo Magnet High School both in Shreveport Louisiana.  In his three seasons at Centenary, he took the Gents from a 1-6 inaugural season in 2009, a 5-5 record in 2010, and an 8-4 record in 2011. In 2010 he was awarded the Lone Star Alliance Conference Coach of the Year.

"Michael joined our program in September and the impact has been felt immediately,” said Tiffany. “ Not the typical volunteer assistant, Michael brings a wealth of knowledge after serving as a head coach for Centenary. He is a very keen and insightful evaluator of our men during the training sessions.  Michael's rapport with the team is exceptional and he has played no small role in bonding the team together even tighter.  He is making our program more visible as well with his marketing experience and attentiveness to our Facebook and Twitter accounts.  Michael's healthy and endless sense of humor provides both the coaching staff and the men comic relief and levity despite the intensity of our mission."

After taking over at Caddo Magnet, a team with just one win the 2008 campaign, he turned the Mustangs around and brought them to the brink of a championship appearance, falling in the state semis to the eventual champion, Loyola, in 2009. The 2011 season saw a rewriting of the record books with a 10-3 record.

Prior to coaching in Shreveport, Michael had a two-year stint at Misericordia University in Dallas PA, and a one-year exchange assignment at the Bath City Lacrosse Club in the United Kingdom.  Brand spent four seasons as the top varsity assistant at his alma mater, Grand Island High School in Grand Island NY.

In the off-season Brand has been a counselor at some of the most elite lacrosse clinics in the country. Just this past summer he was on the staff at Johns Hopkins University's Blue Jay camp and the Blue Chip 225 camp, an invitational camp held on the campus of Bryant University. Also in the summer of 2011 he was the head coach on the USA select team that competed in the Copenhagen Cup in Copenhagen Denmark, bringing home the championship.

A native of Grand Island NY, located in upstate New York, the birthplace of lacrosse, Michael was a two time defensive captain at Buffalo State. In his senior year he lead the squad in minutes played and ground balls.

Michael resides in Coventry, Rhode Island.
