Providence, R.I. - Brown freshman goalkeeper Jack Kelly (West Islip, N.Y.) was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for his play in the Bears' 11-9 win over Harvard Saturday evening in the Ivy opener for both teams. It's the third straight week that a Brown freshman has won at least a share of Ivy Rookie of the Week honors, and Kelly is the third different Brown recipient.
Kelly made five of his season high 15 saves in the fourth quarter alone to help rally the Bears from a two-goal deficit and shut-out the Crimson in the final 15 minutes.
Kelly made several point blank saves on the day, including one with the score knotted at 9-9 with 9:48 to play. He also had a diving save in the third quarter, recovering after a quick restart by Harvard left the goal wide open. Kelly also picked-up seven ground balls and was instrumental in Brown being successful on 22-of-25 clear attempts.
Brown (4-1) has won its last four games with Kelly getting the starting nod in each game. His goals against average of 7.27 leads the Ivy League and ranks in the Top 10 nationally.
