The leader of the orchestra, Sam handles the defensive stick with as much ease and grace as a conductor guiding his musical cohorts through the most difficult of pieces.  He has an uncanny ability to come out of troubled waters with the ball in his stick, exemplified by his 14 ground ball performance versus Providence College last year.  Sam has always played a vital role with our team defense, even starting as a freshman, as he takes on challenging opponents in one-on-one match-ups and coordinates the team defensive slide schemes.  He continues today with these roles, and he has expanded his job description to wear more hats.  Look for Sam to become more involved with the faceoff game in 2013, as well as be a bigger part of the offense due to the rule changes promoting less substitution and more freelance play.  Sam is eager to carry this larger load and have such burdens because he is not only a talented and outstanding lacrosse player but also a captain who excels at leading by example.  The men know they can trust Sam to take another shift and make the big play…2012: Second Team All-Ivy selection…Led the Bears with 13 ground balls…Named to the All-New England lacrosse team…Scored goals vs. Dartmouth and Bryant…Picked-up an incredible 14 ground balls vs. Providence…His 21 caused turnovers ranked third on the Brown team…The co-winner of Brown’s Defensive MVP award…2011: Started 12 of 14 games played…His 37 ground balls ranked second on the Brown team…Scored a goal against Penn and handed out an assist vs. Cornell…Had five ground balls against Duke, Yale, Penn and St. Joseph’s…registered five caused turnovers against Duke…2010: Earned four starts while playing in 13 games…Picked up 17 ground balls, including five against St. Joseph’s and four in Brown’s win over Cornell…Secondary School Background: A graduate of the McDonogh School where he lettered in lacrosse, and also competed in basketball and football… Lacrosse Team Captain… Named All-County and All-MIAA… Also named a MSLCA All-Star and Digital Sports All-Metro… Second Team All-State… Was on the high school Tewaarton watch list and named a Baltimore Sun Player to Watch… Also selected to play in the Under Armour Underclassman games for two years… Played club lacrosse for the Maryland Lacrosse Club… Member of the honor roll… Personal: The son of Darren and Heather Ford… Has an older brother, Robby and a younger brother, Ryan… Enjoys playing the fife, watching sports, and reading… Concentrating in Philosophy and Math.
