Providence, RI - Coach Lars Tiffany's Brown men's lacrosse team will battle cross-town rival Providence College for the 18th time this evening, April 17, with the opening face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Brown fans have an array of options if unable to attend, with live video, audio and game statistics available through brownbears.com.
Brown's Record: Brown (4-7) is coming off a tough 11-10 quadruple overtime loss to Yale last Friday evening. Both teams had plenty of opportunities in the four extra sessions, with Bears' goalie Will Round making seven of his 17 saves in the four overtime periods.
Providence's Record: The Friars (1-10) dropped their ninth straight game on Saturday, falling to Holy Cross, 11-8. Providence has beaten Wagner (13-5), while falling to Lafayette (10-5), Manhattan (11-9), Georgetown (7-6), Syracuse (10-6), Siena (16-13), Bryant (9-4), Rutgers (8-7 ot), Yale (9-6), and Notre Dame (9-1).
The Brown-PC Series Record: Brown and Providence have met 17 times, dating back to 1989, with the Bears holding a 17-0 series advantage over the Friars. Brown earned a hard-fought 6-4 win over the Friars last year on the PC campus, with six different Brown players scoring goals.
This Date In Brown Lacrosse History- April 17, 1971: Brown takes down Princeton by a 10-5 margin at Stevenson Field. Bob Scalise '71, who is currently the Director of Athletics at Harvard, scored four goals and added two assists for the Bears.
Bear Facts: Sophomore goalie Will Round, who made 17 saves vs. Yale, ranks 22nd nationally with a goals against average of 9.41…Brown ranks fifth nationally in man down defense, and eighth in the nation in caused turnovers…Senior co-captain Parker Brown, who had two goals vs. Yale, leads the Bears in scoring with 27 points (15 goals, 12 assists). He has registered 98 career points, with 55 career goals and 43 career assists…Sophomore Sam Hurster netted three goals vs. Yale and is Brown's top goal scorer with 21 for the season…Three-time Ivy League Rookie of the Week, Nick Piroli, is Brown's third leading scorer with 24 points, scoring 18 goals and distributing 6 assists…Junior defenseman Sam Ford's 42 ground balls leads the Brown team.
About the Friars: Sophomore Andrew Barton leads the Friars in scoring with 23 points, netting 14 goals and handing out nine assists…Sophomore Ryan Shaw is one of the top face-off men in the country, wining 70 of 129 face-offs, 24th best in the nation…Senior goalie Christian Dzwilewski has started all 11 games, and ranks 23rd nationally with a save percentage of .534. He had 16 saves in a 7-6 loss to Georgetown.
Swan Song For Stevenson Field Grass: There are just two games remaining before the Bears bid adieu to the Stevenson Field grass playing surface at the season's end, with a synthetic turf being installed at Stevenson during the summer months.
