Bears Back In Action Against Vermont
Providence, Rhode Island – Brown's men's lacrosse team will travel to Burlington, Vermont on Saturday, March 24 to battle the Vermont Catamounts at 1:00 p.m. A live video stream of the game is available for free on the internet on the Northeast Sports Network.
The Bears will look to get back on the winning track following a 10-9 overtime loss to Harvard in their Ivy League opener last Saturday. Freshman Nick Piroli and junior Johnny DePeters scored three goals each for the Bears against the Crimson.
Brown's Record: The Bears fell to 2-3 on the season following a 10-9 overtime loss to Harvard last week. The Bears have posted wins over Quinnipiac (12-7) and St. Joseph's (11-3), while also losing to #5 UMass (12-7) and Hartford (20-6).
The Catamounts: Vermont (1-6) earned its first win of the season in thrilling fashion, scoring with 10 seconds remaining in regulation, for a 12-11 victory over Sacred Heart last Saturday. Vermont's challenging schedule includes losses to #19 Colgate (10-6), #14 Harvard (11-4), Bryant (15-8), #1 Virginia (16-10), #17 Fairfield (14-7) and Holy Cross (9-8).
The Brown-Vermont Series Record: Brown and Vermont have met seven times, with the Bears holding a 7-0 series advantage. The two teams met last year on 3/26/11 in Providence, with the Bears coming away with a 12-10 win after scoring the game's last three goals.
Bear Facts: Sophomore defenseman Phil Pierce registered a career high seven caused turnovers against Harvard and ranks third nationally with 2.8 caused turnovers per game…Senior attackman Parker Brown is Brown's top scorer with 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists). He has registered 84 career points, with 48 career goals and 36 career assists… Freshman Nick Piroli had a career best four points vs. Harvard, scoring three goals and handing out an assist. His 8 goals in 2012 are tied for the team lead in goals scored with sophomore Sam Hurster…Junior defenseman Sam Ford leads the Brown squad with 20 ground balls…Brown's man-down defense ranks sixth nationally, allowing three goals in 15 opponent attempts…Bears' sophomore goalie Will Round ranks 21st in the nation in saves per game (10.0).
The Captains: Seniors Parker Brown and Rob Schlesinger are co-captains of the 2012 Brown lacrosse team. Parker Brown was the Bears' leading scorer in 2011 with 40 points (22 goals, 18 assists), while Schlesinger was an All-Ivy and All-New England selection.
