#6 UMass Pulls Away For 12-7 Win Over Brown

Providence, RI – The sixth-ranked UMass Minutemen led from start to finish, getting three goals from Anthony Biscardi and Art Kell, in a 12-7 win over Brown Saturday afternoon at Meister-Kavan Field.  The win lifts the Minutemen to 4-0 overall, while Brown falls to 1-1.


Brown senior co-captain Parker Brown led all scorers with four goals on eight shots. Senior Dan O'Brien, sophomore Sam Hurster, and freshman Stephen Loudon also netted goals for the Bears.


Kell added two assists to go with his three assists, while Will Manny chipped in with two goals for UMass.


Brown goalie Will Round was strong in goal for the Bears with 11 saves, while allowing 11 goals. UMass goalie Tim McCormack registered 15 saves in the Minuteman goal.


The Bears out-shot the Minutemen by a 42-29 margin, while UMass held a narrow 12-11 advantage on face-offs.


UMass came out swinging, scoring two goals in the game's opening 2:30 to grab a 2-0 advantage. O'Brien got Brown on the scoreboard at the 7:18 mark of the first quarter to cut the Minutemen lead to 2-1.


Brown kept up the pressure, but the score remained the same for the next 16:35 until Kell scored an unassisted goal at 5:45 of the second quarter. Biscardi scored his second goal a minute later to give the Minutemen a 4-1 lead at the half. The Bears hit three pipes in the tough stretch and had a goal disallowed.


The Minutemen kept up the pressure in the third quarter, opening the second half with two straight scores to extend their lead to 6-1.


Consecutive goals by Parker Brown and Hurster brought the Bears to within 6-3 of the Minutemen with 3:32 left in the quarter.  But UMass answered with goals by Steve D'Amario and Manny to take control, 8-3, early in the fourth quarter.


Loudon registered his first career goal for the Bears with 12:43 left in the game. The two teams exchanged goals the rest of the way with Brown's Parker Brown netting two more goals.


There's no rest for the Bears with coach Lars Tiffany's team hosting Hartford on Wednesday, March 7 at Meister-Kavan Field at 3:00 p.m.
