Brown University senior Yann Danis (Saint Jerome, Quebec) was honored as the ECAC Goaltender of the Week (11/3), helping to lead the Bears to a season-opening 2-0 shutout over #9 Harvard, the pre-season ECAC favorite. The honor for Danis marks the eighth time in his career he has been named ECAC Goalie of the Week, earning Player of the Week recognition once.
Danis earned 1st Star recognition, while earning his school-record ninth career shutout. His 20-save effort blanked the Crimson for the second consecutive season-opening game, after earning a 4-0 win last season. The victory also marks the third straight year that the Bears have defeated Harvard in the season-opener.
Brown's win on Saturday evening marked just the third shutout over Harvard in the 139 meetings between the two schools. The first shutout was over 100 years ago when Brown defeated Harvard, 6-0, in the very first meeting between the two programs in 1898. Danis now owns two of the three shutouts with this year's win.
Junior Chris Swon (Mendham, New Jersey), a one-time ECAC Player of the Week last season, made his first appearance on the ECAC Honor Roll. He helped lead the Bears past Harvard, while earning 3rd Star honors. He scored Brown's first goal of the season, which would prove to be the game-winner, mid-way through the second period to break open a 0-0 tie.
Brown will look to continue its fast start this weekend, by traveling to New Hampshire and Vermont to face Dartmouth and Vermont in a pair of ECAC games.
