Men's Ice Hockey Picked Fourth In Both the Preseason ECAC Coaches' Poll, and in the Media Poll

Sept. 22, 2003

ALBANY, NY - The Brown men's ice hockey team has been picked fourth in the annual preseason ECAC Coaches' poll and fourth in the preseason media poll, announced today at the ECAC media day, held at Pepsi Arena, the host of the 2004 ECAC men's ice hockey championship. In addition, Brown senior goaltender Yann Danis (Saint-Jerome, QUE) was named to the preseason All-Conference squad.

The Bears, who were also picked to finish fourth last season, received their highest ranking ever in the coaches' poll with the fourth place selection last season, matching that pick this year. Brown was picked to finish in fifth place in both 1993-1994 and 1991-1992. Last year, Brown finished the season in fifth place, narrowly missing a first round bye, and advancing to the ECAC Championship Tournament for the first time since 1994, while posting a winning season (16-14-5, 10-8-4) for the first time since 1995.

Danis, a second-team All-Ivy and second team All-ECAC selection a year ago, is coming off a solid junior campaign. The Bears' goaltender compiled a .929 save percentage and a 2.32 GAA to go along with a 15-14-5 record and five shutouts, breaking the Brown single season shutout record. Danis was a five-time ECAC Goalie of the Week, a 2003 ECAC All-Tournament Team selection, and a Third Team Inside College Hockey All-American selection. He currently holds Brown records for career shutouts (8), single-season shutouts (5), single-season goals against average (1.86), single-season save percentage (.938), single-season saves (1,043), goalie minutes played in a game (94:14), and consecutive home wins (10). In addition, he owns ECAC Tournament records for saves in a single -season (243 in seven games), and for saves in a career (340 in nine games).

Brown opens its 2003-2004 season on Saturday, November 1, 2003 when it travels up Interstate 95 for a 7:00 p.m. contest at Harvard. Brown and Harvard have faced each other in the season opener in ten of the past 11 years, including the last five.
